How were these purfling lines installed? A gramil could work on the sides with edges, but not sure about the other side where a gramil wouldn't reach... |

Gramil could work. The straight lines would be easy enough to do with a knife and ruler. But I think Aaron is right, and the triangles were inlaid rather than created in-place. The curl in the maple inside the triangles doesn't look exactly the same as the curl outside... though it's close enough that I'm not sure. If they are inlays, then they were probably done while the bridge was still rectangular, and then it was carved to fit the inlays rather than the other way around. |

If I was making that part I'd be thinking "router templates", there would be some careful knife and chisel work at the corners to get the sharp points no matter how you approach it I think. |

I have never done bridge inlays but if I was to do one I would do it like my headstock purfling inlay. Attachment: Head-Stock.jpg I would use the Stew Mac dremel base with edge guide. I would use a board as a straight edge to cut the straight channel. The points would have to be finished off with an exacto knife. |

On Furniture, this would be called stringing. Typically it would be done with a tool called a scratch or a scratch cutter. Lie-Nielsen and Veritas both make various stringing tools. |

CNC's are cool . . . and expensive . . . and I bet that job could be done with a Dremel and the Purfling/Soundhole Router Guide from StewMac. |
